Microsoft / Yahoo Deal Approved

The European Commision and US Department of Justice have approved Microsoft’s plans to buy Yahoo’s internet search and search advertising business. The EC said the ten-year deal, which will see Yahoo’s search service powered by Microsoft’s Bing, “wouldn’t significantly impede effective competition”.

Bing Officially Launches in the UK

Microsoft has launched the first elements of its much-anticipated UK marketing campaign for Bing after its fledgling search engine finally moved out of beta overnight.
Bing is to sponsor X Factor coverage on Global Radio stations including Capital FM and Galaxy, and has launched a competition to win worldwide holidays with Thomas Cook.
