This new browser enables you to easily navigate through all the social media platforms in one window eliminating the annoyance of having endless windows and separate tabs open.

This new browser is backed by Netscape founder Marc Andreessen. Although it does seem a bit similar to “Tweetdeck” & “Seesmic”, Rockmelt seems to have a lot more functionality and compatibility, including full web browsing, search, apps, social network integration and a lot more. Rockmelt has been created to save you valuable time and give you an easier and more enjoyable social networking experience… check out the video below for more info:

Looks like Myspace are trying to make a comeback to compete with the social network giant “Facebook” with who they were once in competition, with a brand new revamp to their site.

Check out the video below, giving you a brief explanation of the changes/new features, plus the new direction Myspace are venturing towards:

So it looks like Myspace have realised their target audience and are sticking to what they were always good at, which is of course “Music”. This looks like a really cool site for bands & music lovers and I think that if Myspace stick to what they are good at, things could start to look up for the Former Social Networking Champs!

After searching around the usual SEM/PPC blog spots this morning, I noticed some new Google news I could provide you guys with. Google are now introducing a new social element to the search query page, “Shared by” & “Recent update” links are now appearing along with the normal search results. Below are a few screen-shots to illustrate my point:

As you can see, the red arrows indicate the new feature Google are currently trying out (“Shared by”), but what do they mean? Well, if you click on the “shared by” link, you will be taken to the Google real time search, where you are shown the people who are sharing the particular story via social media avenues such as Twitter, Facebook & Myspace.

The other feature I previously mentioned, “Recent Updates”, can be seen in the screen shot below:

Again, the new feature is being indicated by the red arrow. So what happens when you click on this feature? When you click on the “Recent updates” link, the link brings back via Google real time search what people are saying on the social network sites e.g. Twitter, Facebook & Myspace, about the search topic you originally searched for.

This new release from Google is coinciding with the new release from Bing, which is very similar. But the major difference between the features are the fact that Bing only allow recent updates and shared by links from your Social networking friends, whereas Google are showing them from everyone and are not limiting you to just your friends. Obviously there are Pro’s and Con’s to both of the search engines new features, but whatever the case, this is yet another step forward for Social Media’s Integration with Search Engines.

Onwards and Upwards is the latest message concerning Social Network Advertising.

1.4 Billion Dollars were spent on Social Network Ad’s last year, and even though we are still very aware of the gradual economic recovery, the average spend is increasing. This is due to the overwhelming demand of companies wanting to reach their key demographic through Social Media, as well as the traditional methods.

Emarketer had this to say on the subject: “eMarketer estimates US advertisers will spend $1.68 billion on social networking sites this year, a more than 20% increase over 2009. Spending will rise even further by 2011 to more than $2 billion.”

Although Facebook is the dominant force, who will be receiving at least Half of all Social Network Ad Spending, there is competition from the ever popular Twitter and the dwindling Myspace, as well as other Social Networking websites. Although these estimates are based on US figures and research, Social Network Advertising is expected to grow even more quickly throughout the rest of the world in 2010.

So in conclusion, if you are currently looking at advertising within the Social Network side of things, I hope this blog will give you the means to make the appropriate decision.

The Wall Street Journal report that MySpace is in talks with Yahoo and Bing for a new search deal. See below for a quote from the WSJ:

“News Corp. is in discussions with Google Inc., Microsoft Corp. and Yahoo Inc. about replacing MySpace’s crucial search-advertising partnership with Google, which expires next month, according to people familiar with the matter.

Under the existing deal, Google agreed to make up to $900 million in guaranteed payments for the right to sell small ads as users surf and tap out searches on News Corp.’s My Space.com and on a handful of smaller News Corp. websites.”

It will be difficult for MySpace to find a new deal worth any more than Google’s offer with their decreasing number of users. We’ll let you know if we hear anything!

Twitter has today hit the landmark of hitting over 50 million tweets sent per day. This is over 20 times the volume of traffic the site was generating only a year ago, and means that is now passes myspace that is estimated to be hitting around 33 million status updates below. The Brand Republic had this to say:

“The growth in tweets has put Twitter ahead of MySpace which is estimated to be hitting about 33 million status messages per day. In January 51.6 million unique users visited MySpace in the US, according to Nielsen, compared to 21.79 million unique users that visited Twitter. The data suggests that while Twitter has an overall lower number of users they are more communicative.

The leap to 50 million tweets per day, or 600 tweets per second, which does not include spam, shows the huge growth the service has notched up in the space of three years.

In 2007 Twitter users were racking up just 5,000 tweets a day. By 2008 that figure had grown to 300,000 and to 2.5 million per day in 2009. Last year proved to be the microblogging service’s breakthrough year growing to 35 million representing an annual growth rate of 1,400%.

However, Twitter is still a long way behind social networking leaders YouTube and Facebook. YouTube is estimated to be serving as many as 1 billion videos per day…”

MySpace.com recently launched a new Ad Platform called MySpace MyAds, similar to that of Facebook’s but they only allow the use of skyscrapers and banners. Like Facebook, they allow you to target your ads very specificly. Techcrunch have posted an article about theyre inital earnings, in the article they talk about how MyAds is already atleast a $50 million/year business for MySpace. Very impressive to say the least…see a quote below from the TechCrunh article:

”MySpace’s self service display ad product, called MyAds, officially launched on October 12, less than a month ago. Advertisers can bypass the normal sales routine, use a Flash tool to create their own display ads, and run them on a cost-per-click basis. The minimum CPC rate is $0.25.

Demand for the product was immediate and significant, we’ve heard from multiple sources close to the company. Average daily revenue, say our sources, is $140,000 – $180,000, which means MyAds is at least a $50 million/year business for MySpace already….”
